Pork Chops and Apples

Pork chops and apples

Drool.

Once again I must apologize for the long gap between posts! The holidays got the best of me and I fell out of the blogging routine. Not to mention that Chicago’s dim winter lighting does not lend itself to food photography…

Nonetheless, I haven’t stopped cooking (or eating). Today I’m drooling over this classic autumn-themed dish that happens to be good all year ’round: pork chops and apples. My dad made this a lot and it’s always a classic. This time, I cooked it up at my mom’s place with the help of my sister for a fun family-style meal.

N’awlins Seafood Gumbo

New Orleans Seafood Gumbo

This dish holds a special place in my heart — mostly because it was one of my dad’s favorites, and representative of his love for New Orleans — but also because until this weekend, I never thought I’d taste it again.

Linguine and Clam Sauce (is the Boss)

Yum.

Sorry for the long delay on new recipes. I promise I have a good excuse this time: I started a new job! It’s been great, but exhausting. I’m still trying to figure out how I can keep up my cooking schedule now that I am a real grownup, so bare with me please.

Anyway, here’s another classic Wachowiak recipe: linguine and clam sauce. Like most of the recipes I’ve done so far, it was always a favorite “special occasion” request of mine—and it’s also exceedingly simple.

Spicy Chili Verde

It’s spicy, it’s delicious, and it’s from Mexico. Of course my dad loved it. This dish was one of his poker-night staples.  The recipe is a bit time-consuming, but it’s so worth it.

Sexy Spicy Thai Curry

Note: It was me who named this dish, not my dad.

Oh, yum. That’s all I can think of when someone says Thai curry. This used to be one of my dad’s staple meals, and he’d always whip up some exotic Thai sides while he was at it (the best I could manage was pad thai from a box).

The first time I made this recipe on my own, it was for 80 people. And it wasn’t exactly on my own…
